The Open Door is a crisis shelter, soup kitchen and coffee house near downtown Midland, Michigan.  The Open Door is an evangelistic ministry that strives to carry on the mission of Jesus Christ.  During his ministry on earth Jesus fed the hungry, ministered to the poor and outcasts of society, healed the sick, and set people free...  he met their physical and spiritual needs.  At the Open Door, we want to carry on this ministry as he guides us.

The Open Door is a non-profit corporation, managed by a volunteer board of directors.  The men and women’s facilities are both staffed by trained volunteer resident advisors.  We are also blessed with a team of volunteers who serve in the soup kitchen, lead bible studies, minister to people who drop in, and pray for this ministry.

Our financial support comes mainly from local individuals and churches.  Local foundations have helped us in the past with large projects.  Many civic organizations, businesses, agencies, individuals and churches make significant donations of food on a regular basis.  Your participation in volunteering, food donation, prayer or financial contributions are all welcome!

Show Jesus Christ to people who are at a low point in life spiritually, financially or socially. To minister God’s Word to those who desire a changed life and need a second chance.  (Matthew 28:19-20)

Minister by faith, not by sight; and to be an organization whose actions are not based on gain. Our actions should show that Jesus Christ is alive and promises never to leave us or forsake us.  (2 Corinthians 5: 6-9; Hebrews 13:1-6)
